What started as a design exploration into the perils of commuting during cold and flu season ended up as a jacket collaboration with Betabrand.
After shadowing riders and interviewing experts, Project Transfer explored multiple solutions (including infrastructure) to the problem of germ transfer on crowded public transportation—focusing on the biggest problem, hand contact. One concept, Straphanger, explored a more personal apparel-based approach to the problem. It went viral (appearing on television and web media) and lead to the Betabrand collaboration. The Germinator Jacket features silver-woven antimicrobial fabrics, pullout cuffs and a hidden transit pass.
