faucet

Flow

Designed for an Asian restaurant, this faucet concept prompts a unique interaction from the user inspired by the control of energy in Zen gardens. A stone is placed on a section of fabric to activate the water flow and can be moved laterally to control water temperature. Surface tension keeps the water following the contour of the fabric, passing through where it gathers around the stone and pouring gently on waiting hands below.

sketches

The idea of using an object to control the flow of water first came out in sketches.

This sweeping form creates a bridge for putting your hands underneath.

use

Placing the rock on the fabric triggers a switch to begin the flow of water and it can be moved left and right to control temperature. The rock is air-dried when placed back on top of the faucet.
