pushpin

Experiments

These are various projects experimenting with form, materials, interaction and electronics. To the left is a pushpin embedded with simple electronics to enhance the classroom or office experience. Pushing the button on the front of the pushpin illuminates an LED on the back, allowing for objects to be emphasized or ranked. Furthermore, audio can be recorded and saved on a computer for later reference by rotating the pushpin 90 degrees.

pushpin3

The full electronics of this prototype is pictured. The interaction was programmed and built using the Arduino platform.

pushpin2

Rotating the pushpin 90 degrees begins recording audio. This feature would be very useful in a setting like a critique where the conversation about the object or document being held needs to be recalled later.

drawer pulls

These colorful plastic objects are drawer pulls, created to understand production processes. They were modeled in Solidworks and then SLA printed. The SLA part was used to make a silicone mold from which these urethane drawer pulls are cast.

radio

This speaker is supported by long, blue sticks and can be flipped over when not in use to become a decorative interior object.

sculpture

The small sculpture at left juxtaposes a bright aluminum band with the angular wooden pieces it wraps around, creating a dynamic composition. The wood was blackened by burning the surface with a butane torch, also revealing the wood grain patterns.

icelamp

This rendering is of a concept for an ice lamp. A person can fill the hollow base with water, freeze it, take out and flip the ice and place it on top of the base. As the ice melts from the heat of the light, it recollects back into the base, restarting the process.

post-it tree

A yearlong experiment to attach post-it notes to an "idea tree." The ideas posted would have to be acted upon before, like real leaves on a tree, the post-it notes lost their holding power and fluttered to the ground.

vessel

This plant holder suspends a Philodendron over a shallow pool of water by placing it on an inverted bowl. The plant emerges from the curves cutting across the surface of a vessel.

bowl

This platter has been fitted with vertical aluminum tubes to create a bowl within a bowl, allowing one type of food to be elevated over another.

wristband

The wristband pictured at left reveals the structure of the bones and tendons beneath the surface of your skin.

lamps

A paper lamp, lit from outside and within.
